Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to his side’s defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Villa kicked off their 2016-17 Championship campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Wednesday away from home on Sunday evening.

Fernando Forestieri’s goal five minutes from full time proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Hillsborough Stadium.

Gardner, who is 24 years of age, started the match for Villa and played for 70 minutes.

The English midfielder has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the defeat for the Villans, claiming that everyone at the club should remain positive despite the disappointing result.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Hillsborough Stadium on Sunday evening, hosts Wednesday had 52% of the possession, took 17 shots of which six were on target, and earned 12 corners, according to BBC Sport.

Visitors Villa had 48% of the possession, took 12 shots of which only two were on target, and earned nine corners, according to BBC Sport.

Villa will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on Luton Town in the first round of the EFL Cup.
