A select round-up of the latest Everton transfer news...

Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, Porto are expected to sell defender Bruno Martins Indi this week with Everton said to be heading the queue in the race for his signature.

The versatile defender, capable of playing either as a centre-back or left-back, played under new Everton boss Ronald Koeman while at Feyenoord and is reportedly keen on a reunion with the Dutch coach.

The Toffees are seemingly in the market for a new defender with the likelihood of John Stones leaving the club before the transfer deadline, and a move for Martins Indi does make plenty of sense.

Ashley Williams of Wales attends a press conference at Stade de Lyon

In other news, the BBC report that Everton have seen a £10 million bid for Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams rejected as the Merseyside outfit eye a move for the Wales international.

Koeman gives off the impression that he likes to work with a rugged, experienced defender alongside a more natural ball-playing centre-back, and that’s what he could be going for with Williams.

The Swansea man is very much an experienced defender with excellent leadership skills, and he is exactly the sort of player Everton lacked during Phil Jagielka’s absence with injury last term.

Everton's Romelu Lukaku

While Everton are still working to bring players in ahead of the new Premier League season, question marks remain over their two prized assets in Stones and Belgium international forward Romelu Lukaku.

A fresh report in The Sun claims Chelsea are willing to offer cash plus Loic Remy and Asmir Begovic for the forward’s signature, and it’s a deal Everton may find hard to turn down.

Lamine Kone scores the second goal for Sunderland

Finally, Everton look like missing out on another centre-back target in Lamine Kone as the Daily Mail report how the towering central defender is set to stay at current club Sunderland.

The 27-year-old only joined the Black Cats in January and played a pivotal role in the club’s ensuing Premier League survival, displaying great strength and understanding at the back.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton are all said to be keen on signing him, yet Kone is set to stay on Wearside.
