Rangers manager Mark Warburton celebrates winning the Scottish Championship
Derek Johnstone has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that Rangers need to sign a defender in the summer transfer window.
The former Rangers star believes that for Mark Warburton’s side to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season, they need defensive reinforcement.
“We know how impressive Rangers can be going forward but if you are going to concede more often than not then you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to score enough goals to win games,” Johnstone wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“You can’t go into matches knowing that you will need to score two or three to just have a chance of getting the victory.
“Rangers need a big, solid, out-and-out defender and not a footballing centre-half. If Mark can get that player in, it would definitely enhance their chances of having a good season. “

Rangers have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far.
The Glasgow giants have signed Joey Barton, Jordan Rossiter, Niko Kranjcar and Matt Gilks among others so far this summer.
The Gers have also secured the services of Clint Hill, who is a 37-year-old defender.
Rangers kicked off their 2016-17 Scottish Premiership campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw with Hamilton Academical at home at the weekend.

Ali Crawford put visiting Hamilton in the lead on the half-hour mark at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, and Martyn Waghorn restored parity for Rangers just past the hour mark.
The Ibrox outfit will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Peterhead in the second round of the Scottish League Cup.
Rangers will take on Dundee away from home in the Scottish Premiership this coming Saturday.
