West Brom manager Tony Pulis as James Chester prepares to take a throw in
Aston Villa are targeting West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester, The Mirror have reported.
The Wales international signed for the Baggies a year ago from Hull City, but had a frustrating season with Tony Pulis electing to play him at left-back instead of centre-back.

Chester impressed for Wales at Euro 2016 and would be a shrewd addition for Villa if they can get him, an upgrade on Ciaran Clark, who they sold to Newcastle last week.
Aston Villa need a new centre-back as they have just lost Clark, and are hoping to move Joleon Lescott on.

Lescott signed for Villa from West Brom a year ago, and while the Baggies clearly sold them a dud on this occasion, it appears Villa have not been deterred
Chester, 27, began his career with Manchester United, and has won promotion from the Championship in his career already with Hull, experience which could be vital for Aston Villa to utilise.

Working against Villa is the fact West Brom have recently been taken over and are under no financial pressure to sell players, while Chester may have reservations about stepping down a level to play second tier football again.
Here is a look at how Aston Villa fans reacted on Twitter to the reports...
Chester & Elphick as a centre back partnership best in Championship I reckon Amavi & Hutton as full backs...quality back line! #avfc— TheVillain (@TheVillain2016) August 8, 2016
Chester a left-sided defender. Exactly what we need #AVFC— The Matt Villan (@dvtavfc) August 8, 2016
Chester seems a great idea to me for a centre back.— Villa Views (@ViewsVilla) August 8, 2016
But will Lescott get a game there? #avfc
