Liverpool have made a number of new signings this summer.
The Reds have strengthened in a number of positions this summer, bringing in goalkeeper Loris Karius, centre-back Joel Matip, midfielder Mark Grujic and attacker Sadio Mane among others.
But Carragher still feels the Merseyside club are one short, highlighting their lack of strength in the left-back position following the decision to play James Milner there in the recent friendly win over Barcelona.
"I think defensively, yeah. I think the left back area is certainly something that hopefully someone will be coming in after the young lad at Leicester has not come off,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
"But James Milner is playing there and I thought James Milner for 35-45 minutes - I mean the challenge he made in the first half to stop a certain goal - he played very well there.”
“But I think you want to be going into the season with one recognised left back.”
Liverpool were heavily linked with Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, yet the England under-21 international snubbed a move to Anfield and instead signed a new five-year deal with the East Midlands club (the Mirror).
The Reds have enjoyed a terrific pre-season in terms of results and performances, and they topped off their preparations with a superb 4-0 win over La Liga giants Barcelona at Wembley.
Jurgen Klopp says it is very much his squad now following the club’s foray in the transfer market this summer, and there is plenty of optimism building around Anfield as we approach the new Premier League season.
