According to The Mirror, Newcastle United are hoping to tie up a deal to take Everton youngster Brendan Galloway on loan.

The Magpies have already snapped up a host of new signings including Matz Sels, Ciaran Clark, Mohamed Diame, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle to name just a few, and with Rafael Benitez still at the helm, Newcastle were made the clear favourites for the Championship title.

However, Friday's surprise 1-0 defeat away at Fulham was a nightmare start to the season, and Benitez looks set to hit the transfer market again in search of reinforcements before this month's transfer deadline.

Left back is a particular area of concern for Benitez, given that Massadio Haidara has endured injury problems ever since his 2013 move from Nancy, and Paul Dummett needs competition on the left-hand side of defence.

Now, The Mirror report that Newcastle are hoping to snap up Everton left back Brendan Galloway on loan, but manager Benitez has been left waiting for an answer from Toffees boss Ronald Koeman.

Galloway, 20, came up through the ranks at MK Dons before joining Everton in the summer of 2014, and made 19 appearances under Roberto Martinez last season due to injuries to Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo.

Now though, Koeman has both Baines and Oviedo back from injury, whilst Luke Garbutt has returned from his loan spell at Fulham, meaning that Galloway may struggle for first-team football this season – and Newcastle are ready to offer him regular playing time in a season-lon loan deal.

However, with Galloway also able to cover at centre back, Toffees boss Koeman is waiting to land his own defensive reinforcements before rubber-stamping Galloway's possible move to St. James' Park, meaning Benitez is waiting for an answer from the Dutchman.
