Leeds United’s start to the Championship season did not go how they would have wanted today, as they were defeated 3-0 by QPR at Loftus Road.

The Yorkshire club have high hopes ahead of the new season but this was not the best of starts, as the West London club thoroughly outplayed them in the capital.

Monk has looked to change things around at the club this summer – including with the replacement of Marco Silvestri in the Leeds goal.

Rob Green arrived, an experienced international, to shore things up. Based on the evidence of the first goal Leeds may have well stuck with the erratic Italian.

Green was at fault, along with his defenders, as Leeds conceded early on via a Sol Bamba own goal.

But Green flapped at his opportunity to gather the ball and former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was not impressed. Speaking on the BBC West Yorkshire Post-Match show he had this to say:

“It’s a poor goal to give away.

“Rob Green not dealing with it. Not strong enough. Flapping at it when he probably should have tipped it over the crossbar and dealt with another corner.

“Just schoolboy errors again. We suffered with that last season.

“If it’s there you deal with it.

“Unfortunately we didn’t want it enough, they did.”

Green made a couple of good stops in the second half but his kicking was poor throughout, against his former club, and he did not convince for Leeds.

That said, it was his first competitive fixture in some time and Leeds fans will hope the former England international is just rusty and can come good soon.
