They are the images that Arsenal fans will not want to see with just a week until the start of the Premier League season – Gabriel Paulista lying injured.

The Gunners took on Premier League rivals Manchester City on Sunday in their final game of pre-season.

It proved to be an enjoyable game for them as goals from Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Chuba Akpom saw them seal a 3-2 win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

It was the sort of victory that they needed, providing them with a timely boost ahead of next week’s curtain raiser against Liverpool at the Emirates.

What they did not need however was further injuries after losing Per Mertesacker for five months already this summer.

Unfortunately fate was against them as a collision with Kelechi Iheanacho saw Gabriel Paulista needing more than six minutes of treatment before leaving the field on a stretch.

The injury appeared to be a nasty one to say the least, with it now looking like he will miss that clash with the Reds and leaving Arsenal with a major defensive crisis just a week before the start of the new season.
