The Newcastle United striker has been linked with an exit this month.
The Mirror reported on Saturday that Newcastle United are prepared to sell striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this month.
The report claims that manager Rafael Benitez has reservations about the Serbian's temperament, with Mitrovic serving a four-match ban for being sent off on the final day of the 2015-16 Premier League season.
Newcastle lost their first game in the Championship on Friday when a Matt Smith goal on the stroke of half time reminded the Magpies - who had £10 million striker Dwight Gayle up front - that their return to the top flight will be anything but simple.
Perhaps a plan-b option in the form of Mitrovic might have yielded another result on another day, and Newcastle fans are not entertaining the speculation that Benitez is ready to offload the former Anderlecht hitman.
@lee_ryder do Newcastle want to sell? I'd be gutted if he goes— Stuart McNichol (@stumcnichol) August 7, 2016
@lee_ryder silly if we sell him ! We're not actually trying to sell him are we ?— MG.T (@mgtempa) August 7, 2016
@lee_ryder Rafa will lose a load of respect if he sells him fans favourite gives passion and fight every game he plays— Daz (@aggaz09) August 7, 2016
@lee_ryder would be idiotic to sell what is in my opinion our best striker and a huge fan favourite at this time of hope for the club.— Nathan Rees (@nathanrees92) August 7, 2016
Indeed, Mitrovic, a £13 million signing from the Belgian side last summer, has only been at Newcastle for a year but he has already become a firm fan favourite.
His hot-headed nature can sometimes make him a liability, sure, but it's also a sense of passion which fans warm to and it's understandable why so many supporters would hate to see him sold.
