Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has hailed the club’s fans during an interview with the club’s official website, saying they Hoops always win the battle in the stands.

The Scottish Premiership champions kick off their title defence with a trip to Tynecastle to take on Hearts this afternoon.

As usual they will be strongly backed by the travelling Celtic fans who will be keen to see their side get off to a winning start after Rangers' drew yesterday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will likely need their support, with Hearts sure to prove a difficult opponent once again.

And Lustig has hailed them beforehand, saying that they always win the battle in the stands.

“Most of the games we play, we always win the battle in the stands so it’s great to have that,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s also good to have a big game right away. It’ll be a good one for us and hopefully we’ll go in positively.”

Celtic will be hoping to give their fans something to cheer about this season as they look to retain their title for a sixth successive campaign.

There is a sense of renewed optimism at the club this year following the appointment of Rodgers earlier in the summer.

They face a fierce fight to say the least though, with Mark Warburton and Rangers looking determined to end the Bhoys' dominance upon their return to the top flight and Rodgers will be keen to start with a win to show they mean business.
