Owen Coyle's first competitive game as Blackburn boss saw his new side lose 4-1 to Norwich City.
Rovers were 3-0 down after 25 minutes, with Norwich's goals coming from Jacob Murphy, Wes Hoolahan and Cameron Jerome.
It was 4-0 within an hour at Ewood Park, as Steven Naismith added more gloss to the scoreline in the 58th minute. Blackburn managed to score a consolation before the end, with new signing Anthony Stokes getting on the score-sheet on his debut for the Lancashire club, after signing on a free from Celtic.
Alex Neil and his men in yellow could not have asked for a better beginning to life in the Championship, whereas it was a horror start for Blackburn.
Although the Canaries are one of the favourites for promotion, making it a difficult opener for Coyle, Blackburn's dismal performance did little to show that they will be a force over the coming season. In fact, it suggested how difficult it is going to be for Coyle's side, who finished last season in 15th.
With Blackburn ending the first weekend of the new Championship season in 23rd place, fans of the club took to Twitter to express their feelings after receiving a battering at home to Norwich.
Desperate times at Blackburn.— Parth Modi (@ParthyModi) August 7, 2016
Need to quickly make the required signings.. or it's gloomy this season!
Unfortunately this is what happens when you sell your better players, replace them with freebies & hire a manager who is a proven failure.— Northern Rover (@Northern_Rover) August 6, 2016
Any fan who thinks we have a chance at promotion needs to think again. We are going down if anything #venkysout— Lewis Fielding (@LewisFielding_) August 6, 2016
Getting hammered on the opening day could be a blessing in disguise. Coyle will now know we aren't as good as people thought...— Talk Of Ewood (@TalkOfEwood) August 6, 2016
@Northern_Rover watched most of that through my hands. Utterly shocking. Stokes was the only player that showed a bit of passion.— Stuart Fraser (@rothes83slayer) August 7, 2016
