Newcastle manager Steve McClaren looks dejected
The Magpies kicked off their Championship campaign at Craven Cottage on Friday as they look to make a quick return to the Premier League this season.
Their campaign did not get off to an ideal start though as a goal from striker Matt Smith handed the Cottagers all three points from the game.

It was a highly disappointing game for Rafa Benitez’s side as they struggled to create many clear-cut chances throughout.
Strikers Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle were both ineffective, and McClaren says they need to sign another striker before the end of the transfer window.
“There is still three weeks of the transfer market to go and I think they will be looking into that because they looked a striker short of being a good team,” he told Sky Sports.

It remains to be seen if Benitez does react to the loss to Fulham by making more signings this summer.
There is no denying that both Gayle and Perez were ineffective against the Cottagers, although the lack of chances being created for them played a major part in that.
That lack of creativity started in midfield, and perhaps that is what Benitez will look to fix rather than adding another striker.
