They appear to have found their man this time around though, with Ayew looking set to complete a £20 million move according to the Daily Mail
Should he arrive, he will likely be a replacement for Diafra Sakho, who is expected to depart despite recently failing a medical at West Bromwich Albion.
So how did the two players compare in the stats last season? We decided to take a look.
Andre Ayew celebrates after scoring the first goal for Swansea
As it transpires, Ayew was statistically the better player as he came out on top in five of the eight areas that we looked that.
He managed more goals, more assists and a better shooting accuracy than the West Ham forward across last season.
He also managed fewer unsuccessful touches per game and more key passes per game than his fellow striker.
Diafra Sakho celebrates scoring the second goal for West Ham
It was not all bad news for Sakho though, he managed to register more shots per game, more on-target shots per game and win more aerial duels per game than the Swansea City star.
However, with Ayew having come out on top in the decisive statistics, on this evidence he could be an astute signing for West Ham this summer.
