Rangers kicked off their return to the Scottish Premiership with a 1-1 draw against Hamilton Academical, in which the Gers were somewhat unconvincing.

It was a carnival atmosphere at Ibrox as Rangers returned to the top flight for the first time since 2012, and much was expected of Mark Warburton's side as they got the new season started.

However, after Kenny Miller had an early goal ruled out, Rangers were stunned when Ali Crawford scored a stunning opener for Hamilton, hammering the ball past the despairing dive of goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and into the roof of the net.

Rangers were frustrated going forward and shaky in defence, with the fans clearly anxious with Hamilton in front and knocking the ball around well.

The Gers improved in the second half, and it was the introduction of forward Harry Forrester which turned the game, as the January signing played a stunning ball over the top of the defence, with Martyn Waghorn latching on to the ball and slotting the ball into the net.

Rangers pushed for a winner but were left disappointed, as they lost some momentum when goalscorer Waghorn was taken off injured with a suspected hamstring strain.

After the final whistle, Rangers players took to Twitter to give their views on the game, with Wes Foderingham praising the support from a packed Ibrox crowd.

Defender James Tavernier claimed Rangers will learn from the game and improve, whilst Forrester was simply delighted to be back in league action on the opening day of the campaign.

Finally, striker Waghorn admitted he was 'gutted' to go off injured, whilst hoping it's nothing too serious - and also praised the club's supporters...
