Friday evening saw the new Championship campaign get underway as Fulham took on Newcastle United.
It is widely felt that the Magpies will dominate the division this year, so all eyes were upon them at they travelled to Craven Cottage on Friday evening.

It did not prove to be an enjoyable night for them though, as a fine headed goal from Matt Smith saw the Cottagers secure a 1-0 win and take all three points.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s side were delighted with the victory, especially after the manner in which they had been written off before the game had even started.
Among those celebrating at the end of the game was Scott Parker, who clearly had no qualms about beating his former team.

It will now be interesting to see how Newcastle respond to this defeat, which was a less than ideal start to life in the Championship.
The loss was particularly disappointing given the manner in which they struggled to create many clear-cut chances throughout the game.
That was largely down to the midfield lacking creativity, and it will be interesting to see if Rafa Benitez looks for further signings to rectify that as a result.
