Burton Albion get their Championship campaign underway later today after promotion from League One last season.

The Brewers, who are managed by a Nottingham Forest hero in Nigel Clough, head to the City Ground hoping to spoil the welcome party for Frenchman Philippe Montanier.

According to Sky Sports Championship expert and former Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, they might just do it.

He feels that Burton have a good chance of causing an upset when they face the two-time European Champions this afternoon.

He wrote in his Sky Sports prediction blog:

“What a place for Burton Albion to start their Championship adventure. I'm such a sucker for the underdog. I'm a fully-fledged football romanticist.

“When you throw in Nigel Clough going back to the City Ground, I think Burton can start their campaign with a victory.

“At this time of the season it's about trying to work out which team has a feel-good factor going into their first game and Burton have that after their brilliant promotion last season.”

Forest will surely not be taking Burton lightly however.

The Reds have a meticulous new manager who has performed brilliantly at clubs such as Rennes and Real Sociedad in the past and has experience in the lower tiers with Valenciennes and Boulogne.

He is therefore no stranger to playing the underdog or indeed being the underdog during his career and was in a similar situation to that of Burton when he guided Boulogne to Ligue 1 in his first managerial job.

So he will know how fired up Burton will be for this fixture – and Forest fans will hope he knows how to counteract it.
