An new boy Grant Hanley endured an indifferent debut for Newcastle Unite as Fulham took all 3 points in the opening game of the season.
The Magpies travelled to Craven Cottage on Friday looking to make a positive start to their Championship campaign. Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez played 5 debutants for the clash after a busy transfer window so far, and Hanley was among them.
Things did not go to plan, however, as a goal from Fulham striker Matt Smith saw Slavisa Jokanovic’s side secure a win and give the West London club a good start to the new campaign.
It was a highly frustrating evening for Benitez’s side, as they failed to create many chances and saw a clear penalty shout turned down.
Defensively they also looked rocky, and Hanley’s stats from the game show he endured an indifferent debut.
|Match||Passing Accuracy||Won Tackle||Interception Won||Ball Recovery||Aerial Won||Outfielder Block||Effective Clearance||Mins Played|
|Grant Hanley||Fulham vs Newcastle||88%||0||0||5||3||0||6||90|
Although he managed five ball recoveries in total, won three aerial duels and made six effective clearances (and enjoyed a passing accuracy of 88%), Hanley's failure to register a won tackle, interception or outfielder block throughout the game means that this will be a debut he will be keen to forget.
