Rodgers knows Sinclair well having had him at both Chelsea and Swansea City, and there is no doubt the former Manchester City man would be an intriguing signing for the Bhoys.
When asked by reporters on a potential deal, Rodgers admitted there was no smoke without fire before suggesting he is looking at not just Sinclair but more additions ahead of the transfer deadline.
“There is no smoke without fire, and there has been a lot of smoke with a lot of players. Scott is a player I know well, I had him in at Chelsea when he was 16 years of age, I know him probably as well as anyone and I know his qualities,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.
“There are a number of players we are looking at which we hope can improve the squad.”
Celtic have enjoyed a decent start to life under Rodgers’ management, progressing through to the final Champions League qualifying stage after seeing off Lincoln Red Imps and Astana of Kazakhstan.
The Bhoys kick off their defence of their Scottish Premiership crown with a trip to Hearts on Sunday, and despite possessing a big squad, Rodgers still remains keen to strengthen in key areas.
Sinclair didn’t have the best of times at Villa last season as the West Midlands club finishing bottom of the Premier League table, yet he did manage to find the net six times over the course of the campaign.
