Ferdinand has suggested that Liverpool can finish in the top four of the Premier League this coming season, but it depends on the fitness of the England international striker.
“For Liverpool it depends on [Daniel] Sturridge,” Ferdinand told Metro. “If he can prove his fitness they’ll have a chance, but without him I don’t think they’re in with a shot.”
Sturridge is one of the best and most important players at Liverpool, but fitness has been a major issue with him for a while now.
The 26-year-old striker was able to make just 14 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring eight goals and creating seven chances in the process.
During the 2014-15 campaign, the former Manchester City and Chelsea striker scored four goals and created 11 chances in 12 league matches.
Liverpool will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League during the 2016-17 campaign.
The Merseyside outfit will not find it easy and will face a strong competition for the prized fourth spot.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in North London in their opening game of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
