According to Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias, Everton manager Ronald Koeman is a big fan of Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patricio – but will only move for him if Joel Robles is sold.

The Toffees saw long-serving goalkeeper Tim Howard move back to Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids earlier this summer, leaving Koeman with a major hole to fill between the sticks.

Koeman has already snapped up his former Ajax and Southampton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, but whilst he's reunited with the Dutchman, he still appears to be keen on strengthening his options in goal.

Diario de Noticias report that Koeman was impressed with Sporting's Rui Patricio during the European Championships, was would consider a move to bring the Portuguese international star to Merseyside.

Patricio, 28, has come up through the ranks, and has made almost 400 appearances for the Portuguese side, whilst he was superb for Portugal as they stunned many to win Euro 2016 this summer.

However, it's claimed that Everton would only make an attempt to sign Patricio if Joel Robles leaves the club this summer, meaning it may be something of a waiting game for the Toffees.

Robles played much of last season as Everton's first choice goalkeeper under Roberto Martinez, but he may start this season as second choice behind Stekelenburg – and with Everton seemingly eyeing other goalkeepers, Robles may be sacrificed for a new face.

Keeping three senior goalkeepers may be difficult to juggle for Koeman, making it a smart decision to only pursue another stopper - no matter how impressive - if one leaves the club.
