Peter Lovenkrands has urged Newcastle United to make a good start to their season, as they look to bounce back from relegation.

Newcastle dropped out of the Premier League last term, but they are the favourites to go straight back up.

Newcastle start their campaign with a match against Fulham later this evening, and Lovenkrands is keen for his former side to get back into the top tier.

Lovenkrands represented Newcastle for three years between 2009 and 2012.

The Danish international was part of the last Newcastle side which got promoted from the Championship back in 2009/10.

Newcastle won the second tier with ease the last time they were at this level, and they seem to have the tools required to be similarly successful this time around.

The Magpies have made seven new additions to their squad this summer, while also keeping hold of the bulk of their team from last term.

Rafael Benitez’s side’s match against Fulham this evening is the curtain raiser for the entire Football League season and will give Newcastle a chance to make a statement, before any other team has kicked a ball.
