Dwight Gayle celebrates after scoring for Crystal Palace
The 25-year old arrived from Crystal Palace last month and feels ready to make his mark at one of England’s biggest clubs.
His journey hasn’t been an easy one however, and after being released from the Gunners academy before he was a teenager, he set off on a path that would take him through almost every level of League football all the way to St James Park.
Dwight Gayle celebrates
“I was at Arsenal until I was 12, so not too long… it was tough leaving but it helped me in the long run,” said Gayle.
“There were others too. Jay Simpson was in the year above but there weren’t too many around who were in the first team. It made me more determined at the start as it was hard to take at a young age.
“I am sure a lot of people have experienced it. After a few years, you learn from it and makes you into a stronger person,” he added.

The former Palace man found his opportunities dwindling under Alan Pardew at Selhurst Park and despite his lack of game time recently, his goalscoring record still stands up.
88 goals in 179 appearances is an excellent return by any standards and with the likes of Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic to feed off, Gayle will be backing himself to add a fair few more to his tally this season.
