The Telegraph has reported that Leeds United are considering a shock move for Aston Villa centre-back Joleon Lescott.
Lescott is an unpopular figure at Villa after a catalogue of off field errors and poor performance on the pitch last season.
There has been minimal interest in him this summer, and the report claims Villa are open to letting him leave on a free transfer.
Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott goes off injured
Lescott is 33, and a former Premier League winner with Manchester City, and needs a fresh start after his woeful year at Villa.
Whether Leeds are the right club for him, with their own litany of off field problems over the past few seasons, is another matter, and he would have to fight for his place in the team.
Liam Cooper, Sol Bamba and Kyle Bartley are the club's three centre-backs and can all stake a claim for a starting spot, and after his miserable season Lescott will have to prove he is worthy of a starting spot, rather than simply relying on his past reputations.

Leeds are in need of an additional defender to provide cover, but it remains to be seen as to whether Lescott is happy sitting on the bench, or is simply keen to escape Villa Park.
Here is a look at how Leeds fans reacted on Twitter...
Lescott will be on ridiculous wages so a move to #LUFC is unlikely. But, if he did move, Monk would be the type to get the best out of him.— Luke McManus (@Manners93) August 4, 2016
Lescott sounds like a terrible idea. Seen milk turn quicker #lufc— Michael (@Michael88445) August 4, 2016
Lescott would bring even more experience, and would still be a good player at this level. I'd be happy. #lufc— TLU (@TalkLeedsUnited) August 4, 2016
Lescott. Terrible, but an improvement on Cooper. #lufc— Daniel Alonso (@CommodoreDan) August 4, 2016
I know Lescott had a terrible, terrible season (understatement) but this is a different level and a change in situation/motivation. #lufc— Liam (@LeedsUtd_Liam) August 4, 2016
Hope these Lescott rumours are . Not what we want at all. #lufc— Scott Porter (@BodgeNscarper) August 4, 2016
