A select round-up of the latest Aston Villa transfer news...

Hull's Abel Hernandez celebrates at the end of the match

According to the Telegraph, Aston Villa are still keen on signing Hull City striker Abel Hernandez despite adding Ross McCormack from Fulham in a big-money move.

The Villans are intent on putting their disappointing Premier League campaign behind them by earning an immediate return to the top-flight under the guidance of Roberto di Matteo.

The club have not been shy in spending on new faces this summer with McCormack the latest to arrive at Villa Park, and now they harbour plans of partnering him with Uruguay international Hernandez.

The talented forward topped Hull’s scoring charts last term as the Tigers secured promotion via the play-offs, yet their turmoil off the field this summer could prompt an exit with Villa waiting in the wings.

Aston Villa's Scott Sinclair has a shot saved by Newcastle's Karl Darlow

In other news, winger Scott Sinclair looks set to reunite with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic as he travels north of the border to undergo a medical with the Scottish Premiership champions (Daily Record).

The 27-year-old netted six times for Villa last season but could not help them avoid the drop, and now an exit looms only 12 months after penning a new contract at the club.

Sinclair will become the Hoops third acquisition of the summer after Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure.

Aston Villa's Carlos Sanchez looks dejected

Another player who could be leaving the club shortly is midfielder Carlos Sanchez, with Sky Sports (live transfer thread, August 5th 2016 at 16:28) accrediting Fiorentina with a strong interest.

The Serie A side is said to have already submitted a loan bid for the former Elche man, though Villa are keen to sell him on a permanent basis now rather than see him leave on a season-long deal.

Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott goes off injured

Finally, the Telegraph report that Leeds United are weighing up a surprise move for Joleon Lescott.

It’s fair to say the defender has not exactly become a fan favourite at Villa Park since joining the club from West Bromwich Albion 12 months ago, suffering from PR gaffes such as posting a picture of his Aston Martin following a heavy defeat - giving the impression he did not care about Villa’s plight.

The 33-year-old was a Premier League winner with Manchester City and perhaps Leeds feel his experience could be handy as the Elland Road club look to make big strides this season under Garry Monk.
