Victor Wanyama has taken to social media to explain why he isn’t in the Spurs squad to face Inter tomorrow.

Tottenham announced their 24-man squad for the trip, via their official Twitter account earlier today, but the Kenyan was nowhere to be seen and he posted this message on Twitter explaining why:

It mean Spurs fans will have to wait a little longer to see the powerful midfielder in action alongside the likes of Eric Dier and Dele Alli.

The development has potentially thrown a spanner in the works for Mauricio Pochettino, with doubt surrounding how the Lilywhites will line up against Everton a week on Saturday.

Mousa Dembele still has a four-game ban to serve so the issue of who partners Dier in midfield until the Belgian returns is still up in the air.

Tomorrow’s friendly would have been an excellent opportunity to see how well a Dier/Wanyama combination could work in the heart of midfield but Pochettino will instead have to turn to other options.

It is a great opportunity for Harry Winks to build on an impressive pre-season and stake a claim to start against Everton, while Ryan Mason and Tom Carroll will also be eager to impress.
