Steve Evans has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 4th August, that Aston Villa have completed a great deal by signing Ross McCormack from Fulham.

Villa are expected to announce to signing of McCormack today, with the striker set to pen a four-year deal with the Midlands club.

McCormack has finished as one of the Championship’s top scorers in each of the past three seasons, yet he has still never played in the Premier League.

And Evans feels that top flight clubs are missing a trick by not snapping up the Scottish international.

“He’s technically magnificent,” Evans said. “Ian Holloway made a great point when he said you look at his body shape and ask whether he has the body shape of a Premier League footballer.

“But when you give him the ball at his feet his a Premier League footballer. I think he’s gone to Villa, but I’m surprised eight or nine top flight clubs didn’t deem him good enough. It’s a great signing for them. “

McCormack’s arrival at Villa significantly strengthens their attacking options for the campaign ahead.

The Claret and Blues are already one of the favourites for promotion, but pundits have found it difficult to predict where they will finish.

While some consider Villa to be automatic promotion contenders, Ian Holloway caused controversy by predicting Roberto Di Matteo’s side to finish in 16th place.

And Evans said, when asked where he felt Villa would finish: “I don’t think they’ll finish in 16th place, like Holloway predicted.”

Villa get their Championship campaign underway with a match against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
