Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo has shared his delight at signing Ross McCormack, speaking to the club’s official website.

The striker completed a move from Fulham on Thursday after the Villans moved quickly to snatch him from under the noses of rivals Norwich City.

He has penned a four-year deal at Villa Park, with the club paying £12 million for his services, the second highest transfer fee in Aston Villa’s history.

They will be hoping that he can score the goals to help them secure an instant return to the Premier League next season.

And Di Matteo has shared his delight at the signing, saying he feels that the Scotland striker can be an important addition.

“I’m delighted to bring Ross on board,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a player with a proven track record and plenty of experience in the division. He is a player whose goalscoring record has been excellent and we feel he can be an important addition.”

There is no denying that Aston Villa are in desperate need of McCormack’s goals given the manner in which their attack struggled last season.

While there were a number of issues for them across the campaign, there is no denying that their lack of goal scorers seriously hampered their chances.

They now have McCormack and Rudy Gestede, who shone in the division with Blackburn Rovers previously, in their attacking line up though and will be hoping both can fire them to promotion.
