It is being reported that newly promoted Premier League side Burnley are on the hunt for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour.

The Clarets boss Sean Dyche is hoping to bring in a creative midfielder before the start of the season and it seems the Belgian international is now on the list of potential options.

The Sun report that Burnley are joining the race for the 28-year-old star, who has recently been linked with a move to Claude Puel’s Southampton.

Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates are also interested in signing the player.

Defour is said to be desperately unhappy at his current club Anderlecht. He has never been welcomed by a pocket of the club’s support – who have not forgotten his five-year stint as captain of fierce rivals Standard Liege.

Defour, who was once heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, has 46 caps for the Belgian national team and is certainly a player who would improve the Burnley midfield.

Burnley have so far signed Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Nick Pope – but have failed to replace Joey Barton, who joined Rangers on a free transfer.

Defour would be a brilliant replacement.
