The young defender was confirmed as club captain today.
The 22-year old has undergone a transformation since Rafael Benitez took the reins and his performances towards the end of last season and during pre-season fixtures made him the ideal candidate to fill the void left by Fabricio Coloccini.

Shearer, who captained the Magpies for a large portion of his 405-game career with the club, sent this message to the Newcastle skipper on Twitter:
Congratulations and good luck for the season captain. https://t.co/mNkdhZk1AF— Alan Shearer (@alanshearer) August 4, 2016
Lascelles will hope to build on his recent turnaround in form and will aim to lead Newcastle to glory in a familiar Championship environment, having previously starred in the division for Nottingham Forest.
Benitez has tailored his recruitment this summer to suit a promotion push in England’s second tier, with the likes of Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie and Grant Hanley all experienced performers at that level.

The Newcastle squad is shaping up nicely with just under a month until the transfer window closes and fans will be confident of an immediate return to the top flight.
Craven Cottage is the venue tomorrow night as the Magpies kick-off their league campaign against Fulham and this new-look Benitez team will be eyeing a three-point haul.
