Fazio risks upsetting Tottenham teammate with comments about his future plans

Federico Fazio says Tottenham pal Erik Lamela wants to return to Roma one day, just after the winger said he only has eyes for his current club.

Erik Lamela is currently in the best moment of his Tottenham career, after playing a key role in helping the club secure Champions League football next season.

The record signing has been dogged by rumours linking him with an exit ever since his unsuccessful opening season at White Hart Lane, and sought to emphatically end them this week.

Quoted by The Evening Standard he said: "Ever since I came to Tottenham I have always heard that I am supposed to be leaving,It is the same every summer - I do not know why.

"From the beginning my focus has always been on Tottenham, even when things did not go as planned at the start. I have never wanted to leave or thought about leaving."

So when teammate Federico Fazio yesterday claimed in an interview that Lamela hankers for a return to Roma, it may not have sat well with him.

Fazio has just clinched a move away from Spurs on loan, with an option to permanent, and claims Lamela helped advise him on a switch. Another assist, if you like, for the winger.

Speaking to Roma TV, reported on by Tuttomercatoweb, Fazio said: "He always spoke of Rome, even before the opportunity arose [for me] to come here. He lived great moments, he told me he'd like to come back."

After Lamela claimed days earlier that he has never thought about leaving Spurs, the comments may not sit well, and are a case of poor timing.

Yet that is not to say Fazio's comments suggest Lamela has any immediate plans to return to Rome. A move like this could be a decade away if he has it his way, after many successful years to come at Tottenham.

Fazio not on the same page as his teammate? Never...

The centre-back went onto claim he believes joining Roma is a step forward for him, and that he coped well with English football.

He said: "In England I was comfortable, a physical and vertical football. I have chosen to take this step, it is a step forward, I am very happy with everything."
