It has been reported by the press in Spain this week that Tottenham Hotspur have made an initial, and unsuccessful, approach to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

Sport reported the news that Tottenham had bid around £1.7 million for the player but that the Spanish side are holding out for a fee of £4.2 million for the talented stopper.

However, the Daily Mail is now reporting that Tottenham have not yet made an approach to sign the player – although Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan.

They claim there has been no approach for the player but that Pochettino likes the player and has followed him growing up through the ranks at the Barcelona-based club where Poch used to manage and play.

The Mail also suggest that Espanyol, who are now managed by former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores, are very reluctant to sell the player this summer.

Lopez is just 21-years-old but has established himself as the number one keeper at Espanyol in recent times. His good form even saw him called up to the Spanish senior squad for a friendly in May.

So it would appear any imminent transfer is not yet on the cards. But Tottenham clearly have their eye on the young Spaniard.
