Ciaran Clark is now a Newcastle United player, after securing a £5 million switch from Championship promotion rivals Aston Villa.
The centre-back has embarked on a new chapter in his career after his release clause was activated, SkySports reported, after a difficult season at Villa Park.
He started only 16 Premier League games as the side were relegated, and his chances were put in further doubt by the arrival of Tommy Elphick.

The Newcastle switch seems like a positive step for Clark for a fresh start, and after impressing against the Toon late last season in a 0-0 draw, it appears Rafa Benitez was suitably taken with him.
Clark is a Republic of Ireland international and is 26, and has been a one-club man through his career up until the transfer.

He adds depth for Newcastle at the back, who needed cover after releasing both Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.
Both teams are expected to be battling for promotion this coming season as they desperately look to make their Championship stay a short one, and Clark will hope to play a key role for Newcastle.
He will have to compete with Jamaal Lascelles, Grant Hanley, and Chancel Mbemba for a starting place, but should take little time to adapt and could even be in the squad for their opening game against Fulham on Friday evening.
Here is a look at how Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to his transfer...
Clark will be decent back up for us. Rafa made a good point, he a left footed centre back, left footers are hard to find #nufc— NUFC WORLD (@Toontoonarmyarm) August 3, 2016
Ciaran Clark will do as a squad player, he doesn't set my world alight. He better not be a regular unless he improves! #NUFC— Brian Marshall (@Bri_Marsha) August 3, 2016
I would have rather kept Taylor than sign Clark but, Rafa knows best #NUFC— Steven Byrne (@nonsocialsteve) August 3, 2016
Don't know what to think of Ciaran Clark signing, feel like he always has a big mistake in him. Delighted about Diamé though! #NUFC— Cathal Donnelly (@CathalJJD) August 3, 2016
We praise Rafa a lot but have to hand it to the board, done a great job on transfers. Astonishing how quick the Clark deal was done #NUFC— Harvey Jamison (@HarveyJamison) August 3, 2016
