Former Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway gave his opinion on Dwight Gayle’s move to Newcastle United on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning (broadcast from 10am, August 1, 2016).
Gayle recently moved to Championship club Newcastle from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.
Holloway worked with Gayle at Palace, and he has backed the former Peterborough United striker to be a success at Newcastle.
“For me, he never really got a run in the team. When he does, he scores goals. I think this is a massive move for him.”
“Can he handle the massive expectation of being almost the main man at Newcastle?” added Holloway. “So I am excited for him. I think he will carry it and he will do really well.”
Gayle scored three goals and created eight chances in 16 Premier League appearances for Palace during the 2015-16 season.
During the 2014-15 campaign, the former Peterborough striker scored five goals and created 16 chances in 25 league matches for the Eagles.
Back in 2013-14, Gayle scored four goals and created two chances in six Premier League games for Palace.
Newcastle will be aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
