Ian Holloway may already be regretting his decision to predict Aston Villa to finish in 16th place in the Championship, with the Midlands club closing in on a deal for Ross McCormack.

Fulham have confirmed that Villa have agreed a deal for McCormack, as HITC reported first yesterday.

The striker is now expected to join up with Roberto Di Matteo’s side, and Holloway may have to rethink where he feels Villa will finish this season now.

Holloway had told Sky Sports that he felt Villa would have a disappointing season and finish in 16th place, which caused great controversy.

Villa fans responded with anger to Holloway’s claims that they would struggle, while even owner Tony Xia put out an furious message towards the pundit on social media site Twitter.

However, Villa supporters are likely to be more appreciative of Holloway’s comments about McCormack in the same article.

The former Queens Park Rangers manager said of McCormack, when it looked like he was set for a Norwich City move: “I've seen they're in for Ross McCormack, that could make the difference. He's the best player outside the Premier League.”

If McCormack does move to Villa he could make his debut for Di Matteo’s side in their first match of the season, which comes against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
