The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
According to a report in Toro News, Arsenal have made an approach to sign Torino full-back Bruno Peres, with manager Arsene Wenger looking to strengthen his defence and provide support for Hector Bellerin, while Mathieu Debuchy's future at the club remains in doubt.
Despite signing Rob Holding from Bolton Wanderers earlier this summer, Wenger has identified a glaring weakness in his side and has aimed to remedy this with the addition of another full-back.
The same report from Toro News claims the Gunners have made an initial offer of €16m to acquire Peres' services, but Torino are said to be holding out for around €20m for their coveted star, who has also attracted Manchester City and Barcelona.
Peres would seem to fit the Arsenal mould perfectly; the 26-year-old is an explosive full-back, comfortable on the right side of defence and midfield and the centre of defence, and possesses great versatility. Making 31 appearances in Serie A last season, the Brazilian wowed suitors with exceptional acceleration, pace and retention of the ball.
The former Santos ace also provided on the goal front for Il Toro, scoring twice in all competitions and providing four assists, demonstrating his preference for an attacking style of play.
While he has not been capped by the Brazilian national team as of yet, a repeat of his performances last year will surely seal an inclusion for Peres in the near future.
If Arsenal were to complete the signing of Peres, he would provide serious competition to first choice right-back Bellerin, who came into his own over the last campaign with a string of impressive performances.
His versatility could also prove key, as he can be deployed in the centre of defence, meaning he could cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
His talents could also even see him play on the right wing and challenge the first-team places of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.
Whether Arsenal decide to intensify their pursuit or not, Peres is an exceptional talent and would certainly give Wenger the options across the park that he desires.
