According to a report in the Guardian, Everton boss Ronald Koeman wants to add another defender, even if he completes a deal to sign Swansea City’s Ashley Williams.
Williams appears to set to join Everton in the near future, with a deal expected to go through in the next 48 hours.
Everton have invested a sizeable fee to snap up the Welsh international, but Koeman does not want to stop there.
With John Stones looking likely to join Manchester City, Everton are eager to bring in another centre-back.
The Toffees struggled at the back last term, and Koeman has made adding steel to the squad one of his main priorities.
Everton have been linked with Southampton defender Jose Fonte in recent times (The Sun), and it seems that deal remains a possibility - even after the addition of Williams.
Everton have around £100 million to spend this summer, but they are yet to invest much money.
The Merseyside club have brought in just one new player over the transfer window so far, with Maarten Stekelenburg joining from Fulham.
