Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels has revealed to The Chronicle that Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas is his idol.
Casillas is one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time and is a Madrid icon.
The 35-year-old Spain international goalkeeper is now on the books of Portuguese giants FC Porto.
The Spaniard has won everything he could have in his career - La Liga, Champions League, World Cup and the European Championship.
Sels, who is 24 years of age, has revealed that Casillas was his idol when he was growing up.
“When I was growing up I looked to Iker Casillas,” Sels told The Chronicle. “He was a great goalkeeper.
“When you are 17 and you are playing for Real Madrid first team that means a lot. He was an idol for me.
“There are a lot of good goalkeepers out there, especially in the Premier League, so I try to learn from them.”
Sels joined Newcastle from Belgian club Gent in the summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, the Championship club had to pay a transfer fee of £6.5 million to secure the services of the Belgian goalkeeper.
The former Belgium Under-21 international goalkeeper will be looking to establish himself as the first choice between the posts at St. James’ Park this season.
Newcastle will feature in the Championship this season after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
