Aston Villa fans have been placed on red alert after a report from the Daily Mail emerged on Tuesday which claimed that Crystal Palace are looking for a buyer for experienced midfielder Mile Jedinak.

Jedinak has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park under Alan Pardew, playing greatly reduced roles in the last two years as the Eagles look to kick on and add more quality to their starting XI.

The 31-year-old Australia captain has made 177 appearances in all competitions for the London club since his arrival from Turkey five years ago, but now appears to be surplus to requirements.

The Daily Mail reports that with just a single year left on his Palace contract, the club are looking to cash in and recoup a fee for the defensive midfielder this summer rather than keeping him on the books and losing him for free next summer.

Centre-back Scott Dann this week replaced Jedinak as Pardew's captain, and his departure from the club seems only a matter of time if a buyer can be found.

Within hours of the Mail's report being published, Villa fans on Twitter had taken up the cry for their club to make a move to bring the experienced, combative star to Villa Park to reinforce their midfield.

Jedinak would appear to be just the type of player Villa need in the middle of the pitch, particular given Idrissa Gana Gueye's move to Everton on Tuesday.

There are also concerns that Villa could lose midfield enforcer Carlos Sanchez, with Fiorentina credited this week as holding a solid interest in the Colombian.

Reacting to the news regarding Jedinak, Villa supporters pleaded with their club on Twitter to bring in the 31-year-old to further strengthen their spine over the next few weeks.
