Arsenal's Per Mertesacker comes off injured
With Per Mertesacker ruled out of action for five months due to injury, Arsenal are in need of further additions at centre-back.
An ideal signing would be Swansea City defender Ashley Williams, who led his club to a 2-1 win at The Emirates last season.
Wales' Ashley Williams and teammates celebrate at full time
The 31-year-old proved his class at Euro 2016 by captaining Wales to the semi-finals, and has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League in recent years.
As it stands, Williams appears to be available, and is on the verge of a move to Everton, if reports are to be believed.
The Mail report a £10 million fee has been agreed between Swansea and Everton, a fee which is a bargain for a player capable of making the impact Williams can.
Wales' Ashley Williams attends a news conference
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a big advocate of finding value in the transfer market, and the Toffees' Williams deal is precisely that.
Everton are flush with money from their new Iranian investor and are building under new boss Ronald Koeman, but Arsenal could offer Champions League football and potentially sway Williams' mind if they really wanted to.
So far the Gunners are yet to make their move, much to the frustration of supporters. Here is a look at the reaction to Everton's move, via Twitter...
