As quoted by the Shields Gazette, Dwight Gayle is very confident that Newcastle United will be able to earn promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Newcastle United endured a devastating relegation into the Championship last term but rather than having a bleak outlook, the Magpies faithful head into the upcoming season with a lot of optimism due to the events that have taken place at the club over the summer.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez

Newcastle were able to convince manager Rafael Benitez to stay put at St. James’ Park and following the Spaniard’s decision, the Magpies have been able to attract a number of impressive signings such as Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle, Matz Sels and Grant Hanley among others to the club.

Ahead of the start of the Championship season, Newcastle have understandably been placed as the favourites to claim top spot in the second tier of English football and while the Tyneside club do possess a far superior side than the rest of the competition, they most certainly cannot afford to be complacent.

Nonetheless, Newcastle very are feeling confident at the moment and new signing Gayle stated his belief that the Magpies should be able to earn promotion.

Gayle told the Shields Gazette, “I hope we will be going up next May. I am not going to put my life on it (joke) but I think we will go up and hopefully we will show why this season.

“I was surprised when I came in just how positive everyone is around the place. It didn’t feel like a team going in to the Championship from the Premier League, there was a great atmosphere and we are all just excited for the new season. We are raring to go.

“It was a strange one to be fair because everyone has been at it in training, raring to go and everyone wants to get in the team for the season ahead. You’d never have thought this club had gone down. We also have a great manager, a great tactical manager, and I will learn a lot from him this season.”
