Oduwa back with Tottenham U21s as faltering progress continues

The Tottenham Hotspur winger has fallen down the pecking order.

It has been a funny few months for Tottenham Hotspur winger Nathan Oduwa.

Having reportedly turned down a new contract at White Hart Lane with the hope of impressing suitors at this summer’s Olympics (as reported by Sky Sports) the 20-year-old missed the cut for Nigeria and is instead playing for Spurs’ under-21s during pre-season.

An initially impressive loan spell at Rangers came to an abrupt end before a disappointing temporary stint at Colchester United yielded just two appearances, and while many of Tottenham’s young players headed to Australia with the senior side this summer, Oduwa could only watch from afar.

On Saturday the left winger scored in a penalty shootout against Standard Liege for Tottenham’s second string, but this is not how he would have expected things to go if we rewind just 12 months.

With Oduwa's current contract ending in the summer of 2017, the winger has a potentially career-defining year ahead of him.

Either he gets his head down, impresses at under-21 level and hopes to get back in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s good graces, or he leaves for free next summer having failed to make a single senior appearance for Tottenham.
