Dwight Yorke has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 1st August, that he feels Sunderland will be well placed to improve under David Moyes.

Sunderland were dealt a blow when Sam Allardyce left to take the England job earlier this summer.

However, they acted quickly to put Moyes in charge, and Yorke feels that the former Manchester United boss will do a good job at the Stadium of Light.

“He’s a big time manager,” Yorke said. “Sunderland is a great place, I had a fantastic time there. They are passionate about their team. But too often they seem to get lucky at the right time. They need to make sure they don’t get themselves in that position.

“It’ll be a challenge for Moyes. He’ll go in there with his experience and try to mould them. I think Moyes will do well. Sunderland have had the experience of hovering over the relegation battle for the last couple of seasons and they’ll learn from that.”

Moyes has only been working with Sunderland’s squad for a brief amount of time, but the players have publicly praised him.

Sunderland still have work to do, if they are to move away from trouble this season, though.

The Black Cats are yet to make a signing, but they are thought to be willing to invest in their squad before the transfer window closes.

Sunderland have recently been linked with Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj (Daily Mail), and Yorke feels that the Black Cats would be making a good move to bring in the Belgian winger.

“It’s amazing [that United are selling Januzaj,” Yorke said. “I think he’s very talented. Talking to one or two people in the squad, there’s no question about his ability.”
