The striker is one of six new signings at Newcastle United this summer.
The striker moved to St James' Park in a £10 million transfer from Crystal Palace earlier this summer as one of six new faces to arrive at the club.
Manager Rafa Benitez has been busy in the summer transfer window as he looks to build a squad capable of securing a return to the Premier League next season.
It would not have been surprising to hear reports that the morale was low following their relegation last season, but Gayle says he found a positive dressing room upon his arrival.
“I was surprised when I came in just how positive everyone is around the place,” he told the Chronicle.
“It didn’t feel like a team going in to the Championship from the Premier League, there was a great atmosphere and we are all just excited for the new season. We are raring to go.”
It remains to be seen if Newcastle can maintain that positive attitude throughout the upcoming campaign.
It is gearing up to be a big year for them, with many expecting the Magpies to win the division and make an instant return to the Premier League.
So far it has been steady progress during pre-season and Benitez will be keen to maintain the positivity that is surrounding the club for as long as possible.
