Young centre-back Jake Skelton has signed a deal with non-league club North Ferriby United.

The BBC report Skelton was one of two players the non-league club signed over the weekend along with former Macclesfield striker Vinny Mukendi.

Skelton was released by Leeds United at the end of June, and had been looking for a club as a free agent.

Just a fortnight ago the 20-year-old was on trial at Sheffield Wednesday, and featured for their under-21 side.

A deal with the Owls did not materialise, and Skelton chose to take the offer of a contract with North Ferriby, newly promoted to the National League.

The defender did not make a first team appearance for Leeds United's first team, despite being included on their pre-season tour two summers ago.

Now he has the chance to play regular games at non-league level, arguably a better one than continuing to play under-21 football.
