Sheffield Wednesday attacking midfielder Almen Abdi has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his delight at making his debut for the club.

Abdi featured in the pre-season friendly match for Wednesday against Port Vale at home on Sunday evening.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder did not start the game at Hillsborough, but he came on as a substitute after the half-time interval.

It was the Switzerland international’s debut for Wednesday since joining them from Premier League outfit Watford last month.

Abdi gave a good account of himself for the Championship club, scoring the third goal in their 3-0 win.

The former Udinese man has expressed his delight at making his debut for Wednesday, and has also praised teammates Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri.

Wednesday narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season.

The Owls progressed to the Championship playoff final where they lost 1-0 to Hull City.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side will be aiming to end up at least in the top six of the Championship this season.
