The Black Cats are seemingly on the hunt for a new defender.
Manchester United's Paddy McNair shoots at goal
Reports today are linking Sunderland with two different central defender options in their bid to strengthen the backline.
Firstly, yet another Manchester United player has been linked. The Sun on Sunday (31st July 2016, page 68) is reporting that Sunderland boss David Moyes is keeping his eye on a move for the Northern Ireland international Paddy McNair.
The talented defender does not look like being a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and Moyes is said to be interested on bringing him to Sunderland.
Reports in Italy however are suggesting that Sunderland are also looking at the signature of Swedish defender Filip Helander from Hellas Verona.
England's Danny Ings and Sweden's Filip Helander and Victor Lindelof of Sweden
Hellaslive.it is reporting that Sunderland are keen on the 23-year-old, who only joined the Italian club this time last year.
Although not capped by the Swedish national team, he has been called into the senior squad.
Sunderland are looking to strengthen their centre-back position further this summer, especially with interest mounting in the services of Lamine Kone.
So it would appear Sunderland are attempting to bring in a new centre-back before the summer ends.
