West Brom reportedly missed out on a loan deal for Chelsea defender Abdul Baba Rahman this week.

It is reported by GhanaWeb that the Ghanaian international decided he would prefer a move back to the Bundesliga, where according to Sky Sports he is currently undergoing a medical with Schalke 04.

Speaking about the decision to not join West Brom the player’s representative Kurt Okraku told GhanaWeb:

“Baba prefers to play in front of a 60,000 packed capacity arena every week, hence the decision to opt for Schalke among all the others."

West Brom are desperately looking for a left-back as they are extremely short in the full-back position going into the new season.

Tony Pulis is clearly not a fan of Belgian Sebastien Pocognoli and Chris Brunt, who has been playing in the role, is currently out with a serious knee injury. Jonny Evans has been largely occupying the role.

The Baggies have recently been linked with Leicester City star Jeffrey Schlupp and Leeds United talent Charlie Taylor in their hunt for a left-back but it seems the availability of Rahman had them keen.

The 22-year-old only joined Chelsea from FC Augsburg last summer in a deal worth up to £21.7 million – as reported by the Daily Mail.

But he failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge – playing just 23 times in all competitions and will be hoping to find more success at Schalke.
