Mamadou Sakho’s agent has commented on the recent controversy surrounding the French international defender.

Amid rumours of a rift with Jurgen Klopp the future of the big centre-back had been called into question this week.

That saw Italian side Roma linked with a possible move to bring the imposing 26-year-old to the Italian capital this summer on loan.

However, speaking to Inside Roma, Niakate Housseyni made it very clear that Sakho was going nowhere this summer.

He stated:

"No, I have not had any contact with Roma.

"No, he did not have any argument with his coach, Jurgen Klopp. Yes, he is a Liverpool player.

"I do not think that Roma have the opportunity (to sign him) at this time.”

The rumours have come about after a difficult few months for the defender.

He was sent home recently from the club’s tour of the USA after breaching club discipline.

This came not long after his ban for a failed drugs test at the end of last season, which cost him a place in the France team for the European Championships.

It does however seem that Sakho’s future does still lie with Liverpool, despite his recent disciplinary problems.

Sakho, who has been inconsistent since making the move to Liverpool from Paris-Germain, is a popular figure with fans because of his larger than life character and eccentric style.

But if he could just cut back the outside scrutiny for a little while this season it would certainly do Liverpool no harm.
