Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Scottish Sun that he would still like to make another four signings before next month's transfer deadline.

The Bhoys lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the International Champions Cup on Saturday evening, and Rodgers must now turn his attention to Wednesday's crucial Champions League qualifying clash with Astana.

The transfer deadline is looming over Rodgers though, and with just a month left to bring new faces in to the club, he'll be hoping to land some big signings yet.

Rodgers has signed just two new players so far, as striker Moussa Dembele has arrived from Fulham, whilst Rodgers swooped to land his former Liverpool defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer.

Other areas of the Celtic squad need some attention, and Rodgers was asked about the situation after Saturday's loss to Barcelona at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he praised his current players, but did admit that he still wants four new faces before the August transfer deadline, meaning work needs to be done quickly to make that a reality.

"We’re still a long way away from where I want to be, but I can’t deny the mental strength of the players," said Rodgers. There were some really good moments in this game but the reality is there are going to be other players coming in to help the team. The attitude and energy have been first-class."

"How many would I like to bring in? Ideally I would like another four. We shall see if that’s do-able. It just takes time. I respect that and understand that," he added.

The Scottish Sun report that Manchester United defender Paddy McNair and Aston Villa forward Scott Sinclair are both top targets for Rodgers, and we could see strong moves from Celtic to land both players in the coming days.

Ultimately, Celtic's Champions League prospects may dictate how much Rodgers can spend in the transfer market - and with Rangers hoping to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title this season, Rodgers will be desperate to land new faces to keep Celtic at the top of the table.
