According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield Wednesday have rejected a £5m bid from an unnamed club for defender Tom Lees - and Sunderland are believed to be interested.

The Owls have been strengthening their side this summer by adding the likes of Almen Abdi and Steven Fletcher, but they will now have to fend off interest in one of their star players.

Defender Tom Lees joined the club from Leeds United back in the summer of 2014, and whilst Leeds may not have wanted to keep Lees at Elland Road, he's proven them wrong over the last two years.

Lees has become one of the Championship's finest centre backs during his time with Wednesday, and he has unsurprisingly attracted major interest.

The Daily Mail claim that Premier League sides Burnley and Sunderland, as well as Championship rivals Derby County and Fulham, have submitted enquiries to try and sign Lees.

In fact, the report adds that Wednesday have in fact rejected a £5m bid from an unnamed club for Lees, with Bristol City and Norwich City added to the list of interest clubs as well.

Wednesday are under no pressure to sell Lees given Dejphon Chansiri's investment, and the defender will again be a key player for Carlos Carvalhal as Wednesday attempt to go one better than their play-off final defeat from last season.

Selling to a Championship rival seems unlikely, but with new Sunderland boss David Moyes looking for at least one new central defender as the Black Cats pursue a partner for Lamine Kone, Lees could have his head turned by a possible move to the Premier League.

Yet, given the current market, Lees is worth much more than £5m, and Wednesday are right to have rejected such an offer just a week before the start of the new season.
